Drug discovery and development is a challenging and long process. It takes more than 10 years from drug target identification to launch of a medicine to the market. The “valley of death”, the big gap between basic science and therapies in human (preclinical and clinical, academia and industry), needs to be filled to realize innovative medicine. Even if innovative seeds are discovered, a lot of translational hurdles such as efficacy, safety, etc. are to be cleared for an innovative medicine to be reached to patients. What is an attractive seed for pharmaceutical companies? What are issues we have to keep in mind for successful drug discovery? Tips of the translational research will be introduced.
